Chin Liposuction

Chin liposuction can enhance your jawline, sharpen features and improve your facial proportions.

A double chin can be a persistent problem for patients, and you don’t have to be overweight to get one! Fat under the chin can be hereditary, while in others it can be caused by specific bone structure causing flesh to hang instead of cling. This can make it almost impossible to get rid of the fat with just exercise and a healthy lifestyle alone.

Another reason for a double chin is neck ageing. Over time, skin quality on the face and neck will decrease and become saggy and wrinkled. When the skin becomes lax, there is often more fat accumulation under the chin which can lead to a change in the definition of the chin and face. All these things can draw the face down causing an aged and puffy look.

One of the best things about chin liposuction is it creates a sharper angle to the neck and jawline, without removing any skin. The skin simply retracts to create a more defined profile.

How does chin liposuction work?

Liposuction of the chin is a minor surgical procedure that removes fatty deposits. Dr Eddie Cheng will firstly numb the area with local anaesthetic and use a device called a cannula (a tiny tube attached to a vacuum) to remove fat and reshape the neck and chin. The chin area only has a small amount of fat, so it is easily and quickly removed. Chin liposuction can also be combined with a chin implant for further sculpting.

The entire procedure can be completed in as little as an hour and the results are dramatic and can take years off your appearance.

Who is a good candidate for chin liposuction?

Candidates for liposuction of the chin is anyone who has reached mature growth. There isn’t an age limit for liposuction as long as the patient is in good overall health.

While patients of any age can have liposuction, great results require the skin to be able to contract as it heals. Candidates will also need to have realistic expectations from the procedure.

What is the recovery like?

Recovery from chin liposuction has a relatively quick timeframe. Initially, there will be some swelling and minor bruising for around a week or two and you will be required to wear a compression garment for a few days after the procedure. Most of Dr Eddie Cheng’s patients only need to take three days off work to recover, which is mainly due to the appearance of minor bruising.

Chin Liposuction FAQs

The amazing thing about liposuction is that when the fat cells are removed, they are gone forever. However, the remaining fat cells will swell and shrink when you lose and gain weight. But, no matter how much your weight fluctuates, the contour under your chin will always be better than it was pre-surgery.

As one of Australia’s finest specialist plastic surgeons, Dr Eddie Cheng is a master at giving his patients natural results. The scars from this surgery will be very small and will fade over time to become almost invisible. Patients also report that after undergoing chin liposuction they look like they have lost weight, not that they underwent liposuction.
